Alrite, so Twitter has been intermittently down all day. Yeah, tons of fun. Have you guys heard of Flutter? Dude, its so much better ....
BWAHAHAAHAHAHA!! I am dying right now. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on a waiting list already for those glasses. Ummmm can I just get LASIK for that type of thing? BWAHAHAHAHAH!!! Omg. I love life.

Twitter is totes mcgotes the fluff in my fluffernutter, but I have a SERIOUS gripe with the trending topics that I hope can one day be fixed.
I watch the trending topics religiously, and find tremendous value in them, but for reals - the spam has got to go!!!
If you're new to twitter, or don't have an account yet - over on the right hand side of the twitter feed are the top trending topics. You can set it to a specific city, like mine is set on LA, or worldwide. It's great! The news finds you ... you don't have to actively seek it. I love love love it!
That being said, EVERYTIME I go to click on a trending topic, the first 20 plus tweets are all spam.
The sneaky mcsneaksters of the spam world use it to get their links to the top of twitter searches. I get it, incredibly smart ... I even do it sometimes with TNTML, but I don't friggen spam it!! It's out of control. You're no longer able to actually find the reason WHY something is trending, which will eventually lead to people not caring about it. Seeing as Twitter is trying to create a revenue stream through the monetization of promoted trending topics, doesn't it seem like this should be a priority for them to clean this up??? For reals ... it's ridiculous!
What do I think they should do about it? Well thanks for asking, I thought you never would!! Alrite, for one, they need to create a line or two up at the top, which will explain why something is trending. I've seen it for a few big stories this year, where it literally just summed up what happened in one sentence. I understand that could be next to impossible to keep track of for all trending topics, in real time, but why not at least TRY for some of the more important headlines!! EVERY NEWS STORY BREAKS ON TWITTER!!! For REALS! Why not figure out a way to capitalize on that!?!? That will also create an opportunity for some news outlets like CNN to petition for their news updates to hit the top of the current trending topic, of course only when it is applicable - but for reals, that could be tremendously effective for local news outlets as well as far as being the FIRST ones to tweet it out, and have it stay there by being verified as a credible account; credibility needs to be established within the trending topics. Big time.
Either way, they need to fix the algorithm in the top tweets within the trending topics so there are more of them, which will flood out some of the crappy spammers. I friggen love me some twitter, but sometimes I really do think these people have no idea what they are doing. Clearly, I think we all get that they had no idea how much of a monster that they created, but sometimes I wonder if they even use the service? Do they care? It just blows my mind that they would let some of these things continue. BAHHHHHH!!!! Oh well.
Holy crap. I was sitting here at Coffee Bean in Century City just browsing Mashable when I came across this amazing article: The 10 Most Powerful Tweets of 2010. I shit you not when I say that this article is moving. It really goes to show you how powerful social media is. From political campaigns to literally saving lives, social media has change the world we live in forever. I know there are a lot of skeptics out there, but you really have to try it before you judge. The thing about social media is it relates to you how you want it to relate to you. I know I'm preaching to the choir here. It's just so amazing. Let me share one of the top 10 tweets with you:

I literally get so sucked into my whole nerdy social media scene, that this whole concept of traditional emailing and texting has become foreign to me. For reals ... I hate it. Just tweet me damnit! Easy, seamless communication in 140 characters or lesssss!! I love love love me some twitter.
That being said, at least 2 times a day, I end up hashtagging either an email or text, and I'll get a snarky response back like "can you ever turn it off" or what does the pound sign have to do with it? UGH! No I can't turn it off, I wish I could, but I am enjoying this revolution right now. Deal with me, deal with the geek speak. So nice to know though that I am not alone!! =)
SO TRUE!! I noticed that filling out the form for the Ford Focus Rally. My partner in it, @LindsayMC doesn't use twitter ... like at all ... and she had these really really really long sentences, and drawn out statements. All of mine were literally 1 word or 1 sentence.
