#TeamConan - BAD NBC! Bad!
Web 2.0 (aka social media) is EXPLODING with the hashtag #TeamConan. The Facebook page, I'm with Coco which was launched just a few days ago when NBC announced the Tonight Show shakeup, currently has 172, 791 supporters. Doesn't it makes you wonder where all these people were during his Tonight Show broadcast?
Conan O'Brien took over the Tonight Show franchise from Jay Leno in June of 2009, and in 7 short months NBC has already given him the boot. Don't get me wrong, I give NBC a lot of props for trying to shake things up a bit, and give Jay his own show at 10, however was Jay ever really funny enough for his own show? I've had mild chuckles here and there, but the only reason why I watched the Tonight Show was because it was the only signal I could pick up on my 11" Toshiba with a built in VCR.
I enjoyed Conan's Late Night show over the years. Conan being a former writer for The Simpsons, certainly managed to sprinkle the tickle of my deeply dry, sarcastic, sense of humor. However, when I would ask people what they thought of the red headed king of nerds, the most common response generated was "meh." People didn't know what to think of Conan. He was certainly a far cry from Johnny Carson who was so vanilla how could you NOT like the guy? Jay tried to keep up with Johnny's mojo, however it seemed to fall flat and came across as more of a people pleasing brown-noser.
What can we take away from all of this?
1) NBC is sincerely on crack.
2) NBC chief Jeff Zucker has some serious dirt on someone for not getting the boot after turning the "must-see" channel into a punch line not even worthy of "Flavor of Love: Naughty Nursing Home Hunnies"
3) Conan is a genius for putting The Tonight Show up for sale on Craigslist.
4) Television programming has become completely irrelevant to our existence. However, if you dare change it - we will blog, tweet, and Facebook you to death.

Did you see the Jimmy Kimmel on the Leno 10@10 clip? Jimmy keep throwing good one at leno for stealing the show.
You know, when Leno took over The Tonight Show, all of the Johnny fans jumped ship, and everyone hated his guts. NBC didn't cave then, so why should it cave now? Worst mistake in TV history was to give Leno his own show and make it a lead-in to The Tonight Show. Johnny went quietly and retired; Leno seems to want to go kicking and screaming.
I definitely admit it is tragic. I give them credit tho for trying to shake up the structure. They just need to know when to admit defeat, and learn how to bow out gracefully. Now this is the hottest mess in TV history!!!
Tragic.
