Social Media is a mirror ... #Wired

I just saw this posted on Wired, and I could not agree with it more!! Working in social media, and literally living days feeling like my thoughts really do post as status updates ... I have learned a TREMENDOUS amount about people.

Gone are the days of the late 90s chats where you thought you were talking to a hot 23/f/Houston and instead you were talking to a 40/m/Detroit. We give away SOO much about ourselves online! It's a psychologist's nerdy wet dream!! All social media is, is a reflection of society as a whole. As we saw with the analysis I posted on Myspace a little while back - you could see that their end was near as we saw the world in general changing.

Businesses freak out all the time wondering how they can mold this medium to monetize it as efficiently and effectively as possible - when in fact all you need to do is a little bit of people watching, and you'll figure the algorithm out. Its not that easy, but it is pretty darn simple! You can't succeed in social media if people don't dig you. Be nice folks, get along with other ... any of this sound familiar??
