Random #Geekery: Graphic.ly Comics Viewer

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @ashleighmayes

I’ve been playing with the Graphic.ly comic reading software today, and I have to say, it’s pretty kick-awesome! Of course, I’m starting with the “Free Comics” section to see how things go, but so far so good!

It really makes me excited that there’s an App for the iPhone and iPad (I really, really hope to get an iPad this year!) and that they are taking suggestions for other formats. I got the program at a Web Comics party while we were in San Diego and first tested it on a HUGE (well…huge for a computer…not for a TV) touch-screen, the screen was practically dangling off of the edge of the hotel rooftop, so I didn’t play long! With a whole convention to spend your money at, who wants to pay for a touch screen monitor? I sure as hell don’t!. It’s really easy to use, allows you to zoom in on each panel, and the comics cost next to nothing. The selections are limited right now (I think there’s 60-something series available…or maybe individual comics?), but I’m excited to see where this software goes as time goes by. I love the traditional format for comics, but when you’re a zillion miles from the nearest comic store and you’re lucky to have a decent internet connection, it’s pretty sweet! I think I’ll be using it a LOT because:

1. Buying single issues can get to be expensive (I’m assuming the creators of the comics have approved the prices) and space-consuming.

2. Sometimes you don’t have time to drive to go pick up comics

3. Zooming on each panel allows you to take a closer look at the artwork and appreciate it more.

If you’re interested, visit the nice guys at Graphic.ly and they'll hook you up with the air version of the software for free!
