More Fun with #OkCupid: My night with a topless avatar
People are dumb. No literally. I used to not really understand intelligence, then I started working in social media, and it all clicked. People are dumb. Dumb. Dumb. If you sit there and say, no way - people are smart; life is reflective. Welcome to your version of reality.
Looky looky the conversation I just had with a topless avatar on OKC:

Why do you even waste time with this kind of people? Jen, you are too patient...
you learn so much if you just listen. #namaste
there's nothing more attractive than a woman who knows exactly what she wants, even if that's only because she knows what she doesn't want.
just my opinion, of course.
"You shouldn't have a shirtless avatar because I don't find it attractive".
We are the world are we? He seems to be getting the attention he was seeking from other women, I think you would be surprised to find some women are just as shockingly shallow as some men.
...I can't believe you just made me defend some shirtless douche, I think I sicked up in my mouth a little for doing so.
I know this is an old post, but allow me to explain why I disliked it so thoroughly. Why did you feel the need to launch hyper-judgment upon him so quickly? And to make such a broad-strokes, perhaps not even accurate generalization about what "chicks" are and aren't attracted to? It also seems that you made some pretty harsh assumptions about his character pretty quickly, because you spared no time in belittling him on account of his image. So he wants to show off his abs, so what? So you mock him with a chick-stereotype that we "don't get visually stimulated," but when he counters with the "gold digger" stereotype, you claim that the fact of his stereotype-pulling--the very thing you just did--is reflective of himself.
Isn't your initial attack, then, reflective on yourself?
Perhaps he's not even cocky--perhaps it's a ploy, or a cover. And then you insist that his choice to post his abs has some massive-scale, far-reaching negative indications about the rest of his personal life. A man wants to represent what he feels to be his best asset on a, bear with me now--->DATING site, and that means he must be some sort of egomaniac in all other areas of his life?
I understand that at any time, anyone's self-representation could merit anyone else's clickey-tongue of disapproval, however it just seemed that you were all too eager to take an opportunity to posture yourself as both politically correct and superior.
Well said D.A.
The man obviously takes pride and works hard on his appearance, why should he not use that asset in his attempt to find a partner?
Considering the little experiment that OkCupid did a while back where a group of women placed 80% of a random sampling of men at below average for looks it does seem that he might very well have the upper hand by working hard on his physical appearance.

As I have said before: the male stripper, male porn mag and erotic firefighter calendar industry continue to thrive so it is hard to agree that women aren't stimulated by visuals. Harlequin romance novels may not be a visual medium but I doubt that the women who read them are picturing the protagonist as a pudgy, balding guy with thick glasses.
You know what, I can't begin to fathom why I am still defending this guy. He is undoubtedly out shagging some willing woman this evening while I am screwing around on the internet. Best of luck to you shirtless dude, your legend lives on.
