Moleskine Tales of #Suspense

A short excerpt from the pages of…

#TalkNerdyToMeLover’s @geekovertravel

…everything was Bob Marley this or Bob Marley that.  Bob Marley wore this necklace, you should buy one.  Bob Marley smoked this ganja, you should smoke one.  Bob Marley sat on that chair, you should buy that chair and smoke this ganja.  I got high just by listening to the locals talk about how much they like their ganja.  I haven’t seen so much ganja since my trip to Amsterdam.

But the real reason why I went to Jamaica was to see the perfect sunset.  I had read in the book, 1,001 Place To See Before You Die, that the Rockhouse Hotel in Negril was ranked the second best place to see a sunset.  I bet number one is somewhere in Africa.  They had these funny looking cottages that sit on top of cliffs.  If you’re not careful, you might actually fall into the ocean!

…can’t believe it was raining.  I thought Jamaica was always sunny!  But the beach still looked awesome even though I couldn’t tan or check out girls in bikinis.  I did however discover the best drink in the galaxy!  It’s called a Dirty Banana.  It sounds and tastes like porn and like porn, you’ll get addicted to it.  Here is the recipe according to Sandals…

1 oz Tia Maria or Kahlua

1 oz rum cream or Baileys Irish Cream

2 oz milk

½ oz clear simple syrup

1 small banana

1 cup ice

But I believe when I had it, the bartender added extra dark rum.  Trust me, you could drink 42 of these and validate it as a meal.

Life here is very laid back.  No problem, mon.  I wish I could live like this.  Braid hair, listen to reggae, and eat jerk chicken all day.  But I can’t.  I’m a city boy and I need my smog, multiplex cinema, and In-N-Out Burger.  The locals here look intimidating, especially when you bargain with them, but they are also some of the nicest people I ever met.  They really know how to enjoy the simple things.  One night I saw an outdoor movie on the beach as thunder and lightning flashed across the sky.  Tell me where in Malibu or Redondo Beach can I experience that?

And yes, after all the rain, I did finally see the perfect sunset on my last day in Bob Marley land.  One Love!

The List: The Top 5 Cinematic #Geek Babes

 #TalkNerdyToMeLover's Victor Ho

I apologize to my female readers in advance. This list is geared towards anybody with the Y chromosome who digs hot girls. You see, in high school I was a total nerd. No cheerleader or girl next door would even know I existed. Instead of going on dates, I went alone to the movies where a guy with no life can retreat in a make-believe world of femmes fatales. I’ve since become a pop culture ninja. Give me a list of X-Men females and I can tell you who I’d cast to play the movie role. I could have listed up to 50 girls but this is not Maxim. I do enjoy watching chick flicks though (I loved Dirty Dancing and Fried Green Tomatoes) and perhaps I can make it up to you with a chick flicks list for manly men in the future.

And no, there will not be anything from porn. So let’s begin with…

5. ANGELA HAYES (MENA SUVARI) FROM AMERICAN BEAUTY

It’s probably one of the best movies in the past decade. Kevin Spacey plays a character we can fictionally relate to. He’s a hard-working man with an unloving family and going through a mid-life crisis. His life takes a tragic turn when he tries to define a beautiful moment. It helps when you have eye candy in the form of a seductive cheerleader like Mena Suvari. She brings a new meaning to the saying “stop and smell the roses.”

4. MIKAELA BANES (MEGAN FOX) FROM TRANSFORMERS

Giant robots plus hot babes equals I’m so there! It doesn’t matter if I’ve never seen a girl that looks like Megan Fox in my pathetic 4 years of high school. What does matter is that she knows automobiles. And that can be a turn on to some guys who are into the fast and the furious kind of stuff.

3. NANCY CALLAHAN (JESSICA ALBA) FROM SIN CITY

In the original graphic novel by Frank Miller (writer of The Dark Knight Returns), the Nancy Callahan character dances topless. But in the movie version, Jessica Alba bumps and grinds with a lasso that makes you forget you wanted to see her naked in the first place. At the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, Miller said when he first saw Alba dancing up on stage to a song he picked, he had tears coming down from his eyes. I don’t blame him.

2. LINDA BARRETT (PHOEBE CATES) FROM FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH

There is one scene that ranks as the most famous and accurate adolescent act ever done on film. Judge Reinhold plays a loser high school senior who spies on the sexy Phoebe Cates in the swimming pool. Backed by a classic 80's song by The Cars, he begins to fantasize about making out with her. Right before he gets into a beautiful agony, he is interrupted by the real world Cates in an embarrassing situation. It's outdated but still a classic!

1. PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (CARRIE FISHER) FROM STAR WARS: EPISODE VI-RETURN OF THE JEDI

Best looking Leia at Comic-Con.  Photo by Neil Figuracion.

The official geek term is Slave Girl Leia. It’s no surprise Leia gets her forceful charms from a hot MILF and a bad-ass Sith warrior. The image of her from innocent damsel in distress to hot body bikini contest winner of a galaxy far away has remained the most popular fantasy dream girl among Gen X males… and beyond. Jennifer Aniston never looked so funny when she dressed up as one in the hit TV show, Friends. And I’m shooting myself in the foot for missing the Deal or No Deal episode where all the female models wore the costume. But in, Fanboys, it girl Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Heroes) got her chance to tease some lightsabers.

HONORABLE MENTION: NUMBER SIX (TRICIA HELFER) FROM BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

You know what I'm talking about... any scene with Tricia Helfer in it is absolutely mesmerizing. Man, if the frakkin’ Cylons look anything like her, I would have surrendered faster than Baltar can wiggle out of his guilty conscious. And how lucky can a bitch like Baltar be to get into a threesome with Number Six and D’Anna (Lucy Lawless; also known as Xena: Warrior Princess)?!?

Editor's note: The TNTML difference between a geek and a nerd? Nerds are a product of a genetic predisposition, geeks are raised. #nuffsaid

YouTube Eye Candy: @ScriptGirl

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Victor Ho

“You can’t sell it, if you don’t write it.”

One of the things that encourages struggling screenwriters living in Los Angeles to keep writing is reading about the spec script sales around town. It doesn’t matter whether someone sold a script for $100 or $1,000,000; it’s an exciting process to be in. It may sound like a lottery but it’s not. There’s no vision or art associated with the lottery. There’s no storytelling. It’s about someone out there believing in a script and hoping to one day make it into a movie.

You can find such script sale reports from reading the trades like The Hollywood Reporter or Variety. Doesn’t sound too interesting, does it? But what if someone with the funny wit of Tina Fey and the sexy allure of Minnie Driver puts out a video highlight of the top script sales in a clever, informative way? Would you watch and listen?

Similar to the daily videoblog Rocketboom, ScriptGirl is a 3-minute news video about the screenplays sold and happenings in Hollywood. The format is really simple. Just put a hot girl behind a desk with a Red Bull and let her read off the top news from The Hollywood Reporter or Variety. I would have never discovered her if I hadn’t browsed through the movie website, Ain’t It Cool News, looking for Battlestar Galactica talkbacks. What’s so great about ScriptGirl is the mystery about her. Not since lonelygirl15 have I wanted to know more about ScriptGirl. For example, what is her real name? One thing is for sure, she knows the movie business. And whether you just want to ogle her, listen to her, or both, I have no doubt she will be the talk around town.

You can find ScriptGirl’s reports every Friday at scriptgirl.net.
