#Facebook Answers Question Regarding Commenting Privacy
Alrite, recently Facebook changed the commenting privacy on your wall from stating that you had merely posted on someone's wall to now, actually displaying the entire comment. Yeah ... sucks ... fortunately, Marky Mark and his Facebook bunch have now provided us with an answer on exactly who can see said comment posting. Take it a wayyyyyyyy Marky Mark!
The only people that can see the story about your comment are those who can see the content you commented on. For example, if you commented on a photo that only you and your friend can see, only you and your friend would be able to see the story on your Wall.
Okayyyyy ... I'm still confused. My profile is completely public. So does that mean that every single person that comments on my wall, will have posted on their wall, the comment since my wall is entirely public? Does that make sense? Cause I'm not gonna lie ... this is making my head hurt. I still think this is kinda douchey, dude - and still plan on deleting all the comments just for shits and giggles. I just don't like it. I'm all for open communication, which is clearly why I like twitter - but this just irks me. I don't know why ... but I'm owning it. BAHH!! Please please please Facebook allow us to set the privacy back to "posted on so and so's wall." Really not liking thisssssss!!!

I just ran a test using Facebook's privacy profile preview, and it appears that the scenario you described above is the case. If you comment on a 100% public story, then a preview of that comment will appear on your wall to all of your friends. However, if you comment on something private, then the story only appears based on the mutual privacy settings (so if I comment on Friend A's status, and Friend B is both my friend and a Friend of Friend A, then when Friend B loads my wall, he sees my comment on Friend A's status).
What surprises me the most about this is that there's no "gray area" posting, like the old one used to be. Either the preview of the comment shows up on the wall of the person you're looking at, or no story appears at all. It would seem there should be a middle ground that would represent the old style of story posting. I wouldn't mind non-mutual friends seeing that I commented on something, but not being able to see what that comment is because they're not mutual friends.
And now, re-reading this, I realize just how damn confusing this whole situation is.
EXACTLY!!! SMF!!!!!!!!!
I don't mind it, and I don't understand why it is annoying, I guess. I have noticed it on other people's wall, but I haven't really paid any attention to it. I just figure since I am only seeing the comment out of context, then I have no idea what they are talking about. And since mine is also totally public, I assume that people have already seen my comment if they have any interest in what I am commenting on.
What is it about it that bothers people?
for me its more that if i have a conversation on facebook i expect a different level of privacy. i understand with twitter its open; and i have no problem with that since its been that way from day one. what i am having problems with is the fact that facebook keeps slowly taking away the privacy with little options to control.
That makes sense. I have never had any sense of privacy on Facebook, as witnessed by my inlaws using every single thing I say on Facebook as a weapon against me, whether I say something on my wall or anywhere else. Does it show what you say if you post on someone's wall, too, or just comment?
