Nerds are the New Rockstars: Bush Pays #Facebook a Visit

Yep. You read that right. On his promotional tour for his new book, “Decision Points,” which has sold more than 1 million copies, George W. Bush became the first president to answer questions live on Facebook which was livestreamed via "Livestream" and aired on Facebook live. (That might sound a little redundant if you don't get it, but since most of you all do - you get the verbiage.) Still think this social media thing is a fad? HAHA!! Loves it.

I watched a bit of the feed, and I have to say I was incredibly impressed. I will preface this however by saying that I am the least political person on the planet ... I come from a family of politicians and when your brother works at the Pentagon, you learn quickly to shut your mouth on things you know nothing about and aren't interested in. Livestreaming however, is TOTALLY my thing.

I was never a big fan of Bush. I voted against him, twice, and just have nothing really nice to say about the guy. Don't like him, don't appreciate him, respect that he was chosen to lead our country, and practice compassion for him at all times ... other than that, I'm pretty meh on him overall as a President. The livefeed managed to change my perspective on him; I actually found him to be incredibly likable.

Throughout his Presidency, his name was often preceded by the words smug and pompous prick. Something he even laughed at towards the end of the livestream by saying, "if you see me at an airport I hope you wave with all 5 fingers."

He just seemed really cool, for the first time - and that was something that only Marky Mark Zuckerberg could have accomplished. Nerds are the new rockstar, and Zuckerberg is the new king of all things cool. Dude, you were worried about The Social Network? Are you KIDDING?! I honestly only respected you MORE the way the film portrayed you.

I have a few friends that work over at Facebook who posted some cool mobile uploads. This one is from my Fiesta Movement buddy Fran Larkin ...

Overall, am I going to go out and buy his book now on my iPad? No. I'm broke, duh! But I will say kudos to his PR department for doing something new and out of the box which ended up making him seem a bit more likable as a whole to one nerd. Not an easy feat considering what we were all left with after his Presidency.

Nerdy Thoughts on #FacebookEmail

I watched the livestream today of the big Facebook announcement, and typically I won't comment on things until I have actually played with them (as this site is lifecasting, and first hand documenting only) but I gotta say, this sounds pretty awesome.

Before we go any further, read about it here on Mashable, so we're all on the same page.

It's totally cool ... I'll wait for you right here and twiddle my thumbs.

Alrite baller, you back? Let's move on ...

First off, I love how personalized the announcement felt. They started on time, which was incredibly respectful, and furthermore the antidotes were refreshing. A bit out of character for Zuckerberg who is seemingly so private, but an interesting touch nonetheless and certainly no accident.

Zuckerberg recalled going home to his girlfriend's house for Thanksgiving and asking her sister's friends what they were using online ... they of course said Facebook, and then they also noted that email was too slow. They wound up using Facebook as their primarily email source as they didn't have to wait to refresh the page, they were already on it - and the little red indicator just popped up.

That apparently sparked the genius for this project.

I gotta hand it to them, Facebook and their branding is just impeccable. Zuckerberg flat out said, this isn't email. It's a "modern messaging system." He's not trying to come in and claim dominance on Yahoo! or Google - he's smart, he knows that doesn't work. We didn't like it on the playground, and we're certainly not going to like it now. He's just coming in with a better solution, re-branding it, and re-packaging it as an entirely new experience.

Good lord, this man turns me on!!!! SO SMART!!!

All the conversations are threaded, and sorted upon the level of priority given to a specific contact. Pretty much everything google wishes they could have accomplished with priority inbox.

I am curious though to see the translation to mobile devices, which for me, is pretty important since I lead a nomadic lifestyle. I never send Facebook messages from my Droid. I can't!! Touch is HORRIBBLLEEEEEEEE!!! I have to use gmail.

Either way, I'm pretty excited about this project. It'll be unrolled over the next few weeks to months by invite only. So sit tight. I'll let you know when I get one.

#Facebook font goes down to funkytown

See ... totally not just you. It's clearly because of the voting. But don't set your browser to zoom in more cause then all your other web pages will get all janky and non-hanky panky.

So there you go. And now you know.

Darn you Zuckerberg!!!!

Oh baby I love it when you pout at me like that *drools*

Sean Parker: #Facebook Should Not Have Won, #MySpace Blew It

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMFGGG!!!! This just made my life. @brycless just found this vid - and tweeted it to me, and I think I'm in love. THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING!!!!!! All these big uber corporatie people are all, "oh Facebook is just a flash in the pan, like myspace" ... blah blah blah. I WORKED for one of the founders of myspace in 2007, launching one of his latest ventures - and the guy was a BAFOON!!! Literally, like the man's name should be in the urban dictionary he was that fucking stupid. MYSPACE DID NOT GO UNDER BECAUSE OF THE THE TECHNOLOGY. IT WAS RIDDLED WITH SPAM, AND RUN BY A BUNCH OF WACK-ADOODLE-NOODLES THAT HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE REALLY DOING. Zuckerberg studied psychology. He understands the value of getting in people's brains vs. Myspace who just wanted to flip it for a profit. Zuckerberg doesn't care about the money, he's more interested in the power. Which is more evil? Meh - who cares ... go launch your business off of Facebook. It's free marketing, and totally not going anywhere any time soon. *breathe Jen ... breathe*
