Wifi coming to NYC subways!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMGGG!!! This is GREAT!!!

Per Mashable: Good news for any New Yorker who hates interacting with others during their daily commute (read: all New Yorkers): Wi-Fi and mobile service are coming to a subway near you. Yup, now even the Mole People won’t be able to escape the outside world.

According to Bloomberg, after three years of stalled progress, Transit Wireless LLC — a conglomerate of wireless and construction companies that was awarded a contract to undergo this project with New York Transit — has finally found the money to move forward. Broadcast Australia has footed the bill, which will bring NYC up to speed with Singapore, Berlin and Tokyo — all of which currently have Wi-Fi in the tubes.

Back in 2007, Transit Wireless LLC had promised to get the job done in 10 years, now it has two years to outfit six stations near New York’s Union Square, and then four more years for the other 271 platforms. The Wi-Fi comes in the form of smoke detector-size antennas, and will afford passengers access on platforms, mezzanines and in sections of the tunnels (not the whole tunnel). Overall, the whole deal will cost $200 million dollars — which begs the question: If the city’s willing to go to the trouble to go wireless, why do I have to take a shuttle nine weekends out of 10 because they’re “doing repairs on the tracks”? But I digress…

Pretty soon, it seems, a goodly portion of NYC will be Wi-Fi ready; AT&T outfitted Times Square with free wireless two months ago and ubiquitous coffee chain Starbucks offers pro bono access as well. Just think, that whole “I was stuck in a tunnel” excuse is never going to be the same…

I am SOOOO excited for this!! I sincerely think we need wifi everywhere ... however, as any good nerd knows - that would basically make cell phone service completely unnecessary subsequently making a billion dollar industry irrelevant. Something uber important biz peeps don't like hearing ... I have no idea what any of this means in the long run, but I will take this small victory and say this is AWESOME!!!

#Nerd's Fashion Spotlight: I'm in love ...

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Annika Buser

…with these beautiful things that I’m convinced were made in heaven. These Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Spotted Leather Sandals are absolutely to die for. They are also (sadly) basically unaffordable for most people: USD$1940.85. Yeah, I know right?? But then again, they are Yves Saint Laurent!

Sooo I had a bit of look (ok, a lot of a look) through some online shopping websites to try to find some sort of cheaper alternative, and I found… wait for it… Madden Girl Kishka Sandals for only USD$59.95! And they are actually really cute! Different to the Yves Saint Laurent ones, obviously, but still pretty awesome! Not that I think I’m actually going to buy the, but it’s the thought that counts! And then again, you never know…

#Randomblings: That Nerdy Chick is stressed

Randombling: A 5 minute long unedited random stream of consciousness produced by a nerd for nerds.

#nowplaying: Fefe Dobson- Ghost

Good lordy I have been stressed this week. Like really, really, really, stressed. All this stuff is great - and trust me, after a phone call I had today ... it only solidified the fact that just based on the NAME of this site alone, I can just create a stupid splash page ... walk away ... and still be awesome for like ever and ever. But I ADOOORREEEEEE what I do. I am just getting spooked by all these big wig meetings I've been taking. I don't want anything here to lose it's core nerdy essence. I just listen to people, follow trends, and act. It's not rocket science - I just know these next few steps are going to be huge ... which is GREAT, I just have to remember I have nothing to lose ... and even if people approach you with crazy amounts of $$ at the end of the day, its just rubbish. You guys are the reason why this is even worth a penny. I have to have to HAVEEEEEE to listen to that. I mean fuck man, I became homeless on this venture - and now I'm staying in a million dollar 1500 sq ft condo. Nothing is logical in life, there is only "is and is not."

This is ... as long as I listen it can't be an is not.

They did a lot of reworking on the TNTML script - and they made the lead a lot more like me. Which is great, totally kosher.

AHHH fuck, what a dream man - what a fucking dream. I just feel like it's not enough though. I don't know if it will ever be ... and I think that will push me and push me to want to do more. I get SUCH satisfaction out of coming up with these weird and wanky marketing schemes, and executing them ... listening to people ... just being so active in social media is just wow - incredible.

I want more of you life, I just can't get enough.

This has been a very random stream of consciousness by a very random nerd.

#NowPlaying: Fefe Dobson - Ghost

This video has all the elements to be super hot ... Hot chick + Hot car ... I mean COME ON! However, it falls a bit flat because she's just trying too damn hard. Fefe Dobson came out in the whole pop tart early 2000 phase, and quickly sizzled. She's back apparently ... and I totally dig the song when it's playing on youtube and I have another window open. #Sigh

Am I being too harsh? Anywho, here's Ghost. Enjoy, lovers.

Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

Now I'm gone in your photograph
I bet you wish you could get me back
Now I'm stuck in your memory
A mistaken identity

What's her name?
What's she like?
Does she know that you'll never treat her right?

What's her name?
What's she like?
Do you leave her in the middle of the night?

You act like you just saw a ghost
I watch you getting way too close
Now I know why you're never there
Now I know so it's my turn to disappear
You act like you just saw a ghost
I caught you (Caught you)
Now I know
Now I know why you're never there
Now it's my turn, watch me disappear
Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

The only gift that you ever gave
Was that you let me just get away
I hope I haunt you in every dream
And you feel a little misery

What's her name?
What's she like?
I should warn her that you'll never do her right

All your games
All your lies
I need to tell her maybe I can change her mind

You act like you just saw a ghost
I watch you getting way too close
Now I know why you're never there
Now I know so it's my turn to disappear
You act like you just saw a ghost
I caught you (Caught you)
Now I know
Now I know why you're never there (Never there)
Now it's my turn, watch me disappear
Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

Now you see me
Now you don't
You must've thought I'd never go
Thanks to you I'm taking back my soul

You act like you just saw a ghost
I watch you getting way too close
Now I know why you're never there (Never there)
Now I know so it's my turn to disappear (Disappear)
You act like you just saw a ghost
I caught you (Caught you)
Now I know
Now I know why you're never there (Never there)
Now it's my turn, watch me disappear
Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost
Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost
Just like a go-go-go-ghost
Watch me go-go-go-ghost

#OHNOSHEDIDNT: Ellen Leaves Idol

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!

Per Yahoo:

After only one year behind the judges' table on "American Idol," Ellen DeGeneres is leaving the show.

"A couple months ago, I let FOX and the 'American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," Ellen said in a statement issued to Access Hollywood on Thursday. "I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next."

The talk show host and comedienne revealed that she didn't come to the decision lightly.

"It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for," her statement continued. "I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings."

Although she is leaving, Ellen said she is thankful for the experience.

"I loved the experience working on 'Idol' and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be," her statement concluded.

Ellen's announcement comes just two days after a report in The Hollywood Reporter surfaced suggesting that original "American Idol" executive producer, and current "So You Think You Can Dance" judge and executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, was being coaxed back to the FOX juggernaut, two years after he left the fold.

While Nigel, FOX and FremantleMedia have had no comment on the report, there were rumors that if the Brit returned to the show which he helped make a ratings blockbuster, the entire "Idol" judging panel, minus perhaps Randy Jackson, could be replaced.

"They feel that they can tweak the format, but unless they do something as dramatic as replacing some of the judges, I don't know if that would really register as a big overhaul of 'Idol' -- a fresh feeling," Kim Masters, a writer at The Hollywood Reporter, told Access earlier this week.

Nigel himself had even suggested a break-up of the judging group, previously telling Access Hollywood's Billy Bush he wasn't a fan of the move -- following his departure -- to add four judges.

"I've never supported four judges," Nigel said. "You know, I think once you've heard [the criticism] 'You suck!' once, you don't need to hear it another three times, to be honest."

Ellen's move is also surprising because she recently told AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman that she would be around for some time.

"I signed a long contract that says lots of things and I remember seeing five years on there," she previously said.

Randy still has time on his contract, but Kara DioGuardi has a year-to-year deal, which has yet to be renewed, although she told Access last week that she was ready to take on Season 10.

"I'm not getting butterflies as much as I was, but I'm ready to find new talent," Kara said.

The news will no doubt come as a surprise to Randy, who told Access last week that he expected to see Ellen at the auditions round for Season 10 - something Access had asked about.

"I'm sure she will," he said, referring to Ellen taking part in the audition rounds. "She didn't come on until later on. So, I'm sure she will this time."

Love me some Ellen. You shall be missed ... Here's one last nerdy little dance for the road ... *tear tear*
