Don't buy Verizon #iPhone??

Hmmmmm looky looky the article I just came across on Gizmodo. Gotta admit, they do make some very valid points. READ!

The day that Verizon gets the iPhone will be remembered as glorious by everybody who's dropped 12 calls in a row, been taunted by meaningless signal bars and just plain had a miserable AT&T experience. But they shouldn't buy one.

Let's keep in mind what Apple—or rather, Verizon—is announcing, precisely. A new carrier for the iPhone 4. That's it. Not a new product. That's why Apple is ceding the stage to Verizon. If it was a truly new product, Apple would do all the talking.

Apple will announce a new iPhone in June, as they have every year since 2008. It'll go on sale later that month, or in early July, as it has every year. That's six months from now. And it'll be better than the iPhone 4 in some tangible way. Maybe not on the order of the leap from the 3GS to the iPhone 4, but it'll have something new to offer. And everybody will want it, because that's how things seem to work with Apple: There's just enough new to make whatever Apple product you've currently got in your hand feel deficient in some way.

But the people who just bought on an iPhone 4 with Verizon will be locked into new 2-year contracts. Their new phones, though maybe better at holding calls better than their AT&T counterparts, will still be old news just a few months after birth. And what if the iPhone does the same thing to Verizon it did to AT&T? Let everybody else be an early adopter.

It's possible that Verizon will come up with some crazy deal to make its warmed-over iPhone 4 undeniably tempting—unlimited data is a start—like selling it for half-price. But the only deal you should consider is one that'll let you upgrade to the next iPhone almost immediately, like a one-year contract. I wouldn't count on anything too wild, though, because Verizon is the most conservative carrier of the four—it's got the best combined network and hardware position now, and it knows it. Remember? It's Verizon who passed up the iPhone in the first place, not the other way around.

It's virtually guaranteed that the next iPhone will come to AT&T and Verizon at the same time (there might be some gap, but it will likely be small—after all, Apple doesn't want to hose their 100 million potential new customers). So if you're on Verizon, itching to the pull the trigger, do yourself a favor. Just wait. You've held on for years. What's a few more months?

I'm pretty stoked for the announcement ... but I agree, I wouldn't go breaking contracts if you're on AT&T and what not until Apple does their announcement in June. All of this to be honest with you just makes my head spin. I don't have an iPhone. I am a DIE HARD mac head owning my macbook pro, ipod touch, ipad, even kick it old school with my green screen mini ... but I also worked in sales for Verizon back in the day, and have had their service since 94. Literally, it was pac-bell at the time ... and my parentals made my bro and I have a cell phone to reach us when we were at the mall. So lame ... hated it. I dunno, I'm stickin with my Droid for now. I need it for my OWLE to be able to enhance the livestreaming that I do, and the rest is just kinda meh. I'm the last one to rush out and get something when it is released. I'm a 2.0 kinda gal, I like to let other people figure out the kinks and problems first. Won't see me getting one when the announcement is made. But stoked either way! Go Verizon and Apple for makin whoopie!! So hot ...

NOOOOO!! @FourSquare photos not available for Droid

Dude, I got so excited over the @Foursquare photo and checkin comment this afternoon that I went and busted out with a Carlton happy dance!!!

But alas, I twinkled my toes a bit to early ... as there is no update for the Android OS just yet.

Yep, no love for FourSquare's illegitimate red headed stepchild.

Bastards ... in the meantime, totes mcgotes update it anyway. There was one released I guess on the 15th? MAJOORRRR overhaul in the user interface. I'm such a slacker when it comes to updating, but this one DEF looks more like the iphone interface, which has always been prettier. *sigh*

Either way, the new photo adding option should be available on the droid later this week. Here's what an update looked like via the iPhone version:

So friggen cool!!! This is music to any lifecaster's earsssssssss!! Whoop whoop!!!

Thx Dennis and Naveen!!

You guys rockkkk my friggen WORRLLDDD!!! Oh yes ... and uhhhh huhhh!!!

#Droid offers new update

DUDESSS!!! I just had a little thingie majiggie pop up on my screen and say that I needed to update my software for my droid. Looky, looky!!

Per Mobiletor: Verizon Wireless and Motorola last shared center stage back in October when they rolled out the attractive Droid Pro handset that was encapsulated by various exciting features. Now the network carrier is back announcing a new software update version for the Droid X by Motorola. With the announcement of this revelation, the company has made various improvements and enhancements.

The enhancements mentioned by Verizon include preloaded offerings such as Madden NFL football game, MyVerizon application v5, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 as well as better Android OS Froyo stability and Data Widget to home panel. Upgrades pertaining to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync feature enhancements to SMTP authentication, corporate email sync and push stop. Even the PIN lock timeout now comes after the server’s settings. Improvements to Visual Voice Mail like Audio routes and ‘Failed delivery to’ message are also seen through this update.

The latest Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.
en.USIBP_C_01.09.07P enables the handset to support MP3 media files after MR2 update as well as lets users enjoy video playback and Music Play without any lock-ups. The ‘Smart Profile: Face Down’ feature wont disable the phone ringer permanently. The Weather widget now has the ability to reside within the assigned location updates and not the current location. While playing high quality WMV videos, handset owners can experience enhanced audio sync.

Much clearer hues are now applied to soft keys in applications like Google Maps. While opting for the Contacts widget, users will be able to see the keyboard when utilizing ‘type to search’. The ‘Force Close’ errors that many experienced whilst using the camera are now eliminated. Other amendments include keeping the device locked even after a long, hard key press. A faster display wake-up is provided when a call comes in.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola suggest that Motorola Droid X owners download this latest software update. Step-by-step instructions can be acquired from verizonwireless.com/droidxsupport.

I've noticed so far an update on google mail, which is rad. It offers the priority inbox ... the rest I haven't really played around with enough yet. I am stoked though if some of the "force closed" issues are being resolved, especially with the camera. UGH! I felt like I was PC again and performing an illegal operation. BOO!! Either way ... make sure you connect your phone to the charger for the update. Otherwise it'll gray out the box and you won't be able to properly install the update.

yay! good stuff man ... #nerdsunite

My #DroidX

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @maniacalmorgan

I switched over to the Droid X from the iPhone 3G at the beginning of the month. I have to say, that was the best decision I've made on a cell phone. It's absolutely amazing. Here's my review on it.

The first thing you'll notice picking up the phone is it's size. It may seem awkwardly huge at first, but trust me, it's perfect. It has a 4.3 inch screen which is almost a full inch bigger than the iPhone 4. Like I said, it may seem huge, but it's really not. It still fits in my pocket without making a huge bulge. I swear, it's just my cellphone!

Open source applications are a big plus. Browsing the web, I stumbled upon a few apps that I wanted to try and was able to download them directly from the website. No App Market required. That's not to say anything bad about the app market. I found a couple of amazing apps such as LauncherPro and Handcent SMS which make your home screen and texts completely customizable. Texts can be formatted in any way you like. Using Handcent SMS, You can make texts look like iPhone or Blackberry texts, or completely customize it to your own style. LauncherPro allows you to customize your home screen by completely cleaning it and then allowing you to start from scratch. You can choose how many pages your home screen has, so you don't have to have the 1021039123 default pages. You can drop widgets of your choice wherever you want and resize them. A big plus is also having folders to organize your apps in. Love love love this app.

This is one of the changes LauncherPro makes to your homescreen (as compared to the picture above)

The OS is pretty awesome. If you are coming from an iPhone, it will take time to learn to navigate through the Android software. It took me about 3-4 days to set everything up to where I was happy. I still find myself changing things here and there. Part of the fun is learning how to use your device! Another cool thing that comes with this OS is Swype. This makes typing so much easier! There is a total learning curve for this. You have to relearn how to type, but it makes it much easier and much faster. I'm still learning how to perfect it, but I am amble to type and text much faster. Here's a video on Swype.

The camera on the Droid X is also fantastic. It's an 8 MP camera with auto focus and an LED dual flash. The camera quality is fantastic and with auto focus, it's ... it's... AMAZING. The camera software has some cool features such as panoramic mode or being able to take more than one picture per shutter click. There's tons of features and I have yet to play around with them all.

One thing I have noticed is a seemingly short battery life. Motorola claims 480 minutes of usage (8 hours), but I haven't found that to be the case. It could be because I'm still in the learning stage, so I'm constantly messing with things and changing settings, etc. If you're a big tech nerd and get this phone, I would recommend a second battery.

Call quality is A quality. This phone has not 1, but 3 mics to ensure call quality. The bountiful amount of mics are used to filter out unnecessary background noises and static, making your voice clear. That's right nerds, you can actually use this device as a phone! *ghasp*

This phone has some other really neat features which I haven't used. HDMI out (mini HDMI), voice-to-text, and the mobile hotspot. I've only had this phone for about 3 weeks, but I'm going to try out all of features on this phone.

All in all, I would recommend this phone to anyone and everyone. I love it! As much as I love my Apple products, I'm glad I didn't get the iPhone 4. This was a good buy and you won't be disappointed.
