#Oscars: Fancy Pants on Day 3!

Just popped on over to the Kodak Theater to check out their progress on setting up for the Oscars, and looky looky what I found ...

View from Walk of Fame on Hollywood Blvd

LITTLE bit of progress from the other day. WOW!

This is happening. Wow.

Speaking of which, do any graphic designers out there know what code of red this would be?? I'm curious.

View the stars have as they are waving from the carpet. *elbow elbow wrist wrist*

Although it looks like the press area is all bunched together, they actually have assigned posts.

It's organized chaos people ... organized chaos!

Pretty. Pretty. Pretty and prepared for the rain that yes, even Southern California gets.

This is where red carpet goes to die.

Dude how is this scuffed already? No respect ...

'Scuse please - I'm with the band er, blog.

This is the walk from the outside red carpet, to the stairs inside the Kodak Theater.

Yay! Lights!

Stairs that lead up to the Kodak Theater where the actual ceremony takes place.

View the stars have from the top of the stairs. Cool shit, man!

(This part btw, is still open to the public - so if you live in LA and wanna see it, come on dowwnnn!)

OMG!!! This sign CRACKED me up!! It says, "according to Us Weekly , Britney Spears (can't read) a homeless man while in LA down her car window and handed him $300.

View fans have from sitting in the rafters. If memory serves me correct as well, you can apply online to be a seat filler. Next year! Get 'em!

Who are these for??? How come I've never seen cue cards on the red carpet before! WEIRD!

So, there ya go! That's what I got from my fancy schmick mancy pants pass today. Not gonna lie, it was INCREDIBLY scary walking around on that carpet today. I was so nervous about getting arrested or something. Dude, EVEN WITH THE PASS it still freaked me out. This is the OSCARS!!! This is MECCA!!

Crazy. Crazy. Crazy.

More tomorrow. There's this luncheon thingie, hoping to score a video from that one. Whoop whoop!

Dude, this spirithood is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO friggen beautiful. I just ... wow. Speechless. It's soft, delicate, but at the same time really fucking heavy. Like wow - heavy. Didn't expect that part, at all. I can't WAIIITTTTT to show you guys my Oscar dress with it. Sunday. Sunday. Sunday. BAH!

So stoked!

No red carpet exploring today. Had an unexpectedly busy day - but for SURE tomorrow morning I'll head over there to see what they're up to. The carpet should be set up for now. Wanna take some cool vids and go exploring. Never know who you're going to bump into!! WAHOOOO!! 5 more days!!

#Oscars: The low down on the SHORTS

#TalkNerdytoMeLover’s Polly Dixon

If you are like me, you like to be “in the know” about awards season. And “knowing” for me means that I like to watch the shows – judge the outfits and argue with my friends over what was the best movie or who did the best acting job. I don’t really purport to know anything about the movie industry or anything…I’m just your average, judge-y nerd who likes to have an opinion about anything and everything (or at least pretend, I know something) . And THIS YEAR, because our own @JenFriel is headed to the Academy Awards…we ALL should be well informed.

With that said, do you ever wonder what the heck the Short Films are? And how/when/where to watch them and what they are? I have. I never pay attention to them at the Awards shows…I can’t even remember if they announce them during the live broadcast. If they do, I’m usually taking a pee break or grabbing my next glass of wine. Anyways, a short film is defined as an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits.  It’s just not long enough to be a feature film.  There are two categories: Animated and Live-Action. (Note: there are also documentary short films too but this entry is not covering them).

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT: Now you can be FULLY informed! Starting today, if you have digital cable, you will be able to view the nominated short films before the #Oscars!! If you have Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks or Cox, they will carry the shorts under their "Awards Season" category while Comcast will have the shorts under its "Oscar Nominees" category.  You can also look them up on iTunes and purchase them individually, if that floats your boat.

And, in case you were wondering, this year’s Short Film nominees are:

Short Film (Animated)

  • “Day & Night” Teddy Newton
  • “The Gruffalo” Jakob Schuh and Max Lang
  • “Let's Pollute” Geefwee Boedoe
  • “The Lost Thing” Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann
  • “Madagascar, carnet de voyage (Madagascar, a Journey Diary)” Bastien Dubois***

Short Film (Live Action)

  • “The Confession” Tanel Toom
  • “The Crush” Michael Creagh
  • “God of Love” Luke Matheny
  • “Na Wewe” Ivan Goldschmidt
  • “Wish 143” Ian Barnes and Samantha Waite***

***I was able to locate two shorts online (which I think are legitimate)– one from each category -  for your viewing pleasure. You can probably find some bootleg versions (if you dig deep enough, but I’m more in favor of supporting the artists & not stealing their creativity …but that’s an entirely different post).  Clips from the others are available on the Oscars website too.

Check ‘em out ... (unfortunately we can't embed them ... stupid vimeo plus, but click the links to enjoy!)

#Oscars: Fancy Pants on Day 1!

Well hello there. Fancy seeing you here. Come round often? RAWRR!! bwahaha! oh my nutty buddy in puddy, I am in the greatest mood ever today. I can't believe all of the cool shit we've got coming up. The schedule this week is JAM PACKED! Totally not kidding ... I have raspberry, blueberry, oh and blackberry ... *drool* blackberry jam uuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Stop it, Jen!

Either way, totally just went to pick up my Oscars Setup badge *cue 4sq checkin*

BOOM.

This gives me full access to all of the behind the scenes fancy pants stuff that is going on this week.

Those events will include, but are not limited to:

2/24: Red carpet food and beverage sampling. YUMMMM!! FOOD!!

2/26: mtvU oscar contest coverage

Plus, I just get to basically putz around on the grounds all week. THAT I am looking forward to. I'm totally an explorer, I just kinda go with it - and usually end up having a story to tell afterwards.

Then on SUNNDAAYYYYY ... I head over to the Night of 100 Stars Oscar viewing party at the Beverly Hilton. See, to actually get a seat at the Oscars, the academy does a lottery. I worked in movie marketing for 2 years when I first came to LA, and my old boss was in the academy. If memory serves me correct, they go out to 500 members of the academy (with their plus 1). Even if you are a member of the academy, you are not guaranteed a seat at the oscars - nuts! My old boss was lucky that he had been selected for the last 5 years in a row. This is the holy grail to Los Angelinos. If you guys have anyone that you want to meet, or want to see - lemme know. Dude, especially for the viewing party on Sunday. The guest list is INSANE!!! Plus there's going to be a lot of free alcohol. Hello, Flipcam? Are you ready?!?!

Guys, you have to understand, this is such a fucking dream. I can't believe this is happening. Blows my mind. Do what you love, and watch everything fall in place. BAHH!! K ... tangent ... but seriously, living in Hollywood during Oscar week is the PITS! I've lived in LA for almost 7 years, and in Hollywood for almost 4. Can you imagine going to the grocery store and not being able to because, oh yeah! the Oscars have shut down the entire area. It's pretty lame - there's loads of traffic and the entire town comes to a screeching hault. There's no avoiding this thing, the road closures run all week.

Super grateful to have this opportunity though. Went exploring today and this is all I got for ya ...

These are the rafters that you see above the red carpet upon arrival. Nothing too exciting just yet, all of this just started this morning.

BUT!!!! Guess who I saw in the valet line outside the hotel ...

He was bustin a serious sag, and what looked like a case of the mondays. Didn't want to bother him ... but I have to admit, I was tempted to just bust out with a WIIIILLLLLDDD THIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG!!

There ya go! That's what's happenin so far!

Calling all #GraphicArtists!

SOOOOOOOOOO!!!! This week, my livestreaming of the Oscars is going to be featured on the main page of Ustream.

FUCKIN' RAD!!!!!!!!!

The only problem is, is that I have to have a banner up as an ad for the show. Dude, me + graphics = one hot mess. I never learned graphics. Like ... anything. at all. and or whatsoever.

I have photoshop, and can like tweak a pic or two ... but I definitely want a pro for this type of thing. I get too frustrated with it, and yeah - it's not pretty.

I have the set measurements, and all that snazzy jazzy stuff that you'll need. I can't pay you for your time, but I can definitely add you to the list of people I recommend when I get asked for stuff. Plus, obviously you can screen shot the banner for your portfolio.

I need the banner before Thursday, so anything, anyone can do would be GREATLY appreciated! I am making a commitment in the not so distant future to learn about these things ... but for now, I will trust your area of expertise!

Hit me up on twitter: @JenFriel

Facebook my butt: Facebook.com/jenfriel

OOORRRR get old school and email me - JenFriel@talknerdytomelover.com

Thanks in advance!
