What one’s favorite #color signifies

Life is cause and effect. Nothing is isolated ... even your favorite color.

My favorite color is blue. Coincidence considering my level of expression???

Per Yahoo:

Most of us have a favorite color. Maybe you’re drawn to sky blue because it makes your eyes stand out or you find forest green particularly comforting. Whatever the case, your preferred hue can reveal a lot about what makes you tick. And the same holds true for the people you date — you’d probably have a different impression of a date if he or she said, “My favorite color is yellow” versus “My favorite color is black.” That’s because color speaks a powerful, silent language. And I can help you understand it. I’m a success coach and best-selling author of Simple Spells for Love and other books, and I’ve studied color theory. So, look up your favorite color below — then, your date’s best-loved shade — and get some colorful insights that will benefit your romantic life.

Red
What it represents: Ah, the color of passion, anger and high blood pressure. Red is a primal color. It represents primal urges, like lust (“I must have you now!”) and fury (you know the phrase “seeing red,” right?). Yes, red is a commanding color: think of how stop signs get you to halt in your tracks and how you stand back when a red fire engine goes whizzing by.

Understanding people who love it: They act — sometimes without thinking — on immediate desires. In fact, they’re usually the poster children for immediate gratification. It’s up to you if you go for it... or proceed with caution.

Orange
What it represents: OK, orange is not exactly the easiest color to wear and it’s not the most common favorite color, but guess what? Orange is as sensual as it gets. Orange is a mellowed red — and it takes primal, lusty urges and mellows them with a softer vibe. Orange is the color of early attractions, emotional responses, and inner magnetism. Oh, and one other thing: orange is also close to gold, the color of success and wealth.

Understanding people who love it: Someone who likes orange is alive with feelings, the ability to nurture, and can intuit a path to success. If your favorite color is orange, you don’t have an “off” switch when it comes to passion. This is all good stuff, but there’s nothing casual about the connections this kind of person usually forges.

Yellow
What it represents: Yellow is the color of the sun, vitality, power and ego... but it’s not a great indicator of romance. Watch out for self-centered, “me first” energy when someone prefers yellow to the rest of the rainbow.

Understanding people who love it: If yellow is your favorite color, temper your use of the word “I” when you’re interested in someone else. You can come across as too ego-centric otherwise. Now, if you’re dating someone whose favorite hue is yellow, make sure to jump in and share stories about yourself, since this person may not give you much room.

Green
What it represents: Here is the heart of the matter: green is the color of love. (It’s no coincidence that we make our money in the same color...) Green is the color of life and abundance — leaves, grass, plants — it’s all about growing, expanding, and living. So why don’t we give ferns instead of roses on Valentine’s Day? Because green is about expansive, humanistic love and acceptance, not bodice-ripping romance. What’s more, green is a nice-person color, a “do-gooder, be-gooder” kind of color. This person has a warm heart. Passion is probably in there somewhere, buried under their integrity and honor.

Understanding people who love it: If you love green, you put the greater good before your own good — but try a little selfish behavior once in a while.

Blue
What it represents: Blue is a color of clarity, communications and charm. And regardless of the shade, this hue says: “I like to be understood.” On the downside, under stress, a “blue” person can send mixed messages, have trouble making up their mind, or just space out during conversations.

Understanding people who love it: If blue is your favorite color, you never run out of anything to say — expression is your strong suit. And if you’re dating a “blue” person? The same holds true; you should always know where you stand.

Purple
What it represents: Purple evokes the energy of illusion, imagination and fantasy. Or should we say purrrrple? Purple tends to inspire coyness, romance, flirtation and teasing — it builds anticipation with a dash of playfulness. The downside of purple is unrealistic expectations. Is it easier to live in your fantasy world than the real world? Some purple-lovers prefer it.

Understanding people who love it: If you love purple, you can be an imaginative romantic or prefer imaginary romance, depending on how you feel.

White
What it represents: White is light — the combination of all colors. White symbolizes purity (the traditional bridal dress, the christening gown) and spirituality. There’s a simplicity to it, too.

Understanding people who love it: People who love white are probably clean and orderly. While white isn’t the sexiest color, it is certainly healthy.

Black
What it represents: Like white, black is a combination of all colors, but instead of purity, it represents the unknown, the unseen — mystery. Black basically holds back information... but there’s no denying that it has strong associations in our culture with “the dark side” and evil.

Understanding people who love it: If your favorite color is black, you are more hush-hush than high-strung in nature. The silence of this color lets others fill in the blanks. Black says, “I’m not telling you anything.” People who love black can be tough nuts to crack, but quite possibly worth the effort.

Amazon defends sale of How to Book on Pedophilia.

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Leslie Morgan:

I was on Tech Crunch as I am every afternoon researching potential stories, fun new gadgetry etc when I came across this post:

http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/10/amazon-defends-pedophile-how-to-guide/

The gist of the article is as follows:  Amazon is selling a book titled, "The Pedophiles Guide to Love and Pleasure." Yes folks it is essentially a how to guide on how to molest children and Amazon is selling it.  This literally was the look on my face after reading the article:

Now I am not going to post exerpts here of the book.  You can click on the link above and read them if you so desire. Also by me even writing this article I am giving unnecessary press to something that I personally find to be morally offensive.  However, what struck me, beyond the content was the amount of comments the article generated.  The comments that kept coming up over and over were about the fact that Amazon has the right to sell this book because of freedom of speech.  Amazon is quoted, "Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable. Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.”

Now Amazon's own policy states that it will prohibit content that includes “offensive material,” as well as content that “may lead to the production of an illegal item or illegal activity.”  Who at Amazon determines whether something is offensive and would the content incite illegal activity?  I mean if you are a pedophile will you go, run out and buy this book and then commit heinous acts on children.  You probably would do that with or without this book.  More to the point if someone who is not a pedophile goes out and buys this book, will they then commit heinous acts on children?  Doubtful?

For me Amazon's choice to sell this book is their choice as a business.  I can't do anything, but write them a letter about how I feel and I can choose to not buy anymore Amazon products ever and I can also tell all my friends and ask that they boycott Amazon and never purchase their products again as well.  That's my right just like it is Amazon's right to sell something if they want to.  Someone made the point that if Amazon CHOSE not to sell that book they would be infringing on Freedom of Speech, but that's where I disagree.  Amazon is a business and as a business it is their choice what they sell and don't sell.  I think their argument of we believe it is censorship is frankly bs.  It's a business decision pure and simple.  The book does not contain pictures of these acts nor does it contain pictures of children.  Amazon's decision has nothing to do with right and wrong or good vs. evil.  Amazon wants to make money as a business and therefore they are going to sell products whether they are objectionable to some or not.  However, if enough people made a dent in Amazon's monetary bottom line by deciding never to shop at Amazon again due to their choice of selling this book I would take bets on how fast they would decide that it was in their best interest as a business to no longer distribute something that the majority of people found to be offensive.  It comes down to the almighty dollar folks pure and simple.  Just like it's Wal-Marts choice to not sell 50 Cents' latest record.  It isn't censoring the artist, you can buy 50 Cents' record at a variety of different places all over the world, but to say Wal-mart is infringing on Freedom of Speech isn't the case.

However, where's the line?  Could Amazon distribute a book on how to blow up a plane?  How to create a meth lab in your kitchen? How about how to kill the governor of the state of Georgia or better yet the president? Now with the later there is sedition to consider, but all of these are illegal.  I am curious from a legal perspective the answer to this.

In any case Amazon made a choice as a business and as a consumer I am making mine!  I will not buy the book nor do I want to promote or purchase anything from Amazon for the time being.  That's my freedom of choice as a consumer.

I am curious  where do you stand on this?

#NerdsUnite for Keith Olbermann

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's Erin P. Capuano

As a self-proclaimed nerd I feel I am bound by some type of an honor code to support and stand by my fellow nerds in their time of crisis.  These are crazy times we live in and while we are struggling with two wars, a slow economy, growing animosity towards immigrants, severely damaged Healthcare system, failing educational system and a society which still deems homosexuals as second class citizens we have little voices of support in the media.  Keith Olbermann host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC is one of our Liberal voices and makes no bones about leaning left but he also isn't afraid to go against his own party in order to keep the facts real.  Fox News known for its clearly partisan extreme Right Wing views and lack of respect for the facts has long supported candidates even plugging their events and helping them raise money on their shows.  Commentators like Sean Hannity have made no secret of their own personal donations to candidates within the Right Wing party.  While MSNBC has its own set of rules for its commentators the suspension of Keith Olbermann for his three donations to Democratic candidates last week was neither, warranted or fair.

Last week it was released that Keith Olbermann had made three donations of the maximum allowed $2,400 to three different candidates in tight races against Right Wing opponents.  Each commentator at MSNBC must sign a contract that states they will not make any donations to a particular political party without prior approval or notification from the network and because Keith did not disclose these donations prior he was, "suspended indefinitely" last week from his show.  Immediately his suspension sparked outrage within the political community and support came from some unlikely places including some on the Right.  While the rule was put in place to keep the network from seeming a little too much like Fox News it does ride a fine line between who is a journalist and who is a political commentator, there is a difference.  We look to certain figures like Anderson Cooper for in the middle journalism but when we want someone to go out on a limb to take a stand and tell it like it is we look to the opinion makers like Keith Olbermann, contrary to MSNBC's belief, the American public is neither stupid nor naïve we can tell the difference.

Keith has made his Liberal stance very clear since coming to MSNBC and has never marked himself as a bipartisan journalist however he is very fair in his reporting making sure to call out both parties on their hypocrisies and lies making sure everyone is held accountable Keith is a man of the people not a political party. Since coming to the cable news network Keith Olbermann has brought a whole new generation to politics and brought some outrageous ratings in the meantime.  He is single handedly responsible for bringing Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell to the network and has raised enormous amounts of money for mobile health care fairs.  These fairs have now visited two states giving free health screenings and some procedures to people who do not have insurance.

Keith Olbermann is known for going head to head with Right Wing commentators such as Bill O'Reily, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck calling them out on what he calls their dangerous rhetoric and constant need to try and insight violence against the U.S. Government.  Not a stranger to confrontation he always manages to do it with a bit of humor.  Recently John Stewart and Stephen Colbert had their Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear in Washington D.C. and their message was both sides need to calm down with the negative rhetoric and think of how to work together rather than tear apart.  Keith was one of the only on air commentators who took this message to heart and decided to remove his segment called Worst Persons which for the most part consisted of Right Wing public figures.

A running joke within the Twitter community is that if Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow had a baby it would be a global super power and eventually rule the world, while we know this will never happen since Rachel is a Lesbian we can dream.  Two strong, intelligent, Liberals in one place at the same time can make for some serious fireworks especially when they are changing the face of how we get our news day by day.  I know that I will never go to Katie Couric for my news because lets face it if I wanted someone to throw softball questions to political figures simply for ratings I'd watch Good Morning America.  I want someone who is going to tell the truth even if it hurts my Liberal feelings and Keith isn't afraid to do that.  I've come to expect that snarky facial expression when some Senator or Congressman says something absolutely outrageous and Keith dedicates a segment to it pointing it out when no one else is talking about it.  His signature paper throw at the camera and his nightly "Good night and good luck" statement that sends me off with fuzzy feelings knowing someone out there cares.

For eight years Keith got me through some down times with George W. Bush in office seeing my rights slowly being taken away, watching us invade a country we had no business in, listening to lie after lie, abuse of power after abuse of power and our reputation going down the toilet all over the world.  It was truly a sad and stressful time for many and finding Keith Olbermann in a sea of journalists who just didn't want to ask the tough questions who didn't want to call the President out on his lies and war crimes was a breath of fresh air.  He spoke to us the people who knew we were getting the shaft we knew the GOP wasn't listening they didn't care and to them we were just a means to an end they had their power and no longer needed us.  It was because of that not because of Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow or Ed Schultz that I became anti-Republican it was because of their lack of empathy, their need for greed, their love affair with large corporations, their need to shove religion down my throat take my reproductive rights away and say I can't marry my partner simply because she's also a woman.  We can sit back and try to place blame in all the wrong places but the truth still remains this country has yet again made a major mistake we've voted a Republican majority into the House and now we will see two more years of George W. Bush policies of greed, lies, and everything in between.

We need Keith Olbermann now more than ever we need the healthy dose of truth that comes with his position of power we need his intelligence his wit and his undeniable commitment to the truth above and beyond everything else.  Whether we like him or not agree or disagree with him one thing cannot be disputed he only uses facts, his opinions are backed up with facts and his criticisms are backed up by facts as far as I'm concerned that’s a true patriot.  So I say welcome back Keith Olbermann I look forward to tuning in on Tuesday November 9th to see your smiling face and waiting to hear what you will say about the suspension.  Over 300,000 signatures on a petition to bring you back, truly NERDS UNITING!

Girl You Look Good, Won't You Back That #Data Up

 #TalkNerdyToMeLover's @AdamReisinger

"It's not IF your hard drive will fail, it's WHEN."

During my five-plus years as a Mac Genius, I said this to customers more times than I can count. It's a simple reality of technology: hard drives (and, to a lesser extent, flash drives) are not designed to last forever, which means you ALWAYS need to have a backup.

I'm not here to tell you what the best backup strategy is, but you should be backing up your critical data regularly. Both the modern Mac and Windows operating systems make it easy to automate the backup process, and if you need more configurable options, you can get software that will do a pretty god job for under $50. The bigger cost comes in the storage, because at minimum, you need at least as much backup space as you have primary storage space. For example, I have a Mac mini with an 80 GB internal drive, and a 4 TB drive attached that holds my iTunes media. For backing up, I've got a 500 GB drive backing up the internal drive, and another 4 TB drive backing up the iTunes drive.

Some people will recommend having an off-site hard drive in addition to your in-home backup drive, but that's entirely up to you. I personally don't have an additional offsite drive for my iTunes media, because if something catastrophic happened at my house that caused the loss of BOTH hard drives AND all my CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, I think the loss of data would be the least of my concerns.

But, with all that said, there's a new level of backup strategy that is incredibly hard to account for: the cloud. I'm not talking about backing up TO the cloud, as most major operating systems have allowed you to do that for years. I'm talking about your data that originates on the cloud. This website is a good example of that, and we all saw what happened this past week. When all those posts got deleted, it got my thinking about my own site and how it's backed up (answer: not at all, unfortunately). All those videos you upload to YouTube, those pictures you post on Flickr, even your Facebook and Twitter posts, do you have backups of those? Probably not.

To be honest, I'm sure that Google, Facebook and Twitter have their own site-wide backup strategies in place. Hell, SquareSpace even probably has such a thing in the event of hardware failure. But because we've never really thought of blog posts, Twitter updates, Facebook statuses, etc. as "data" in the truest sense, we don't think of backing them up ourselves, which means they're more subject to deletion or disappearance than the files on our hard drives, and in many cases they're actually more important.

I know that once I saw what happened here, I immediately figured out a short-term backup solution for my own site, and I'm still looking into a more long-term one, because as much as I think my blog posts are important, I'm sure Google's got better things to do than dig through its backups if a rogue web surfer deletes a bunch of my posts. Because, just like with a hard drive, it's not IF it'll happen, it's WHEN.
