Dating Down

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's  @saintpepsi

Dating down! This is something the nerd community kinda hoped for as it helped in getting those computer geeks, with Canadian girlfriends laid in real life. This phenomenon is something of a broken system and usually one you only see girls perpetuating. Guys well we are always looking to get with the best looking and coolest girl we can. For us a beautiful girl makes us look better. Right? Well for some girls dating someone that obviously doesn't deserve them makes them feel like a goddess. Like a “10” with a “4” you know. Of course they will say, “I'm just tired of good looking prick guys taking me for granted.” Hardly, girls are just as much about good looking guys as guys are with girls.

We all want someone we are attracted to and there is only so far a good personality will get you. What is that old phrase used to describe blind dates... the phrase you fear above all else... Oh yeah! “They have a great personality.” Makes you shudder in fear of just how hideous this person might be. I digress... back to this weird phenomenon of girls dating “meh” guys. I see it as the same reason a slightly attractive girl picks pretty unattractive friends to go out to the bars with at night. It's the ratio game. If you are the hottest girl in a group of 5 the guys will notice you first. Think the girls from Sex in the City, Charlotte had this mastered.   Same thing happens with professors and papers. If your paper is “A” material but is shoved in between a bunch of other “A” papers you may get a “B” if the other papers are slightly better. Where if you have a “C” paper in the middle of a group of “F” papers chances are you'll get a much better grade because of the paper company that your paper was keeping. This principle works the same with people in groups. So take that and apply it to a girl that's a “7” dating a “3”. She's going to look amazing in comparison. She's going to look like a 10.

This will drive men to do very unruly things. On one hand you will have the guy who is involved with said attractive girl. For him there will be no rest to the misery he will suffer. Day in and day out he will be plagued with the thought that she could get better. Day in and Day out he will have to fend of the often unwanted advances of unscrupulous guys. As for the unscrupulous guys well you have hordes of them like the goblins come to crush the good folk of middle earth. Storming your fair maidens castle any chance they can. Walk away to get your lady a drink and come back to see some devilish rogue chatting her up. So with each new circumstance your non jealous attitude that you had at first because you assumed she would get hit on, rears it's ugly head and comes out in a nasty way. Snarky remarks, unapologetic looks of disgust at any who come near the table, and a sudden desire to take up some kind of marshal art. This will no doubt piss off the girl you're with because a little bit of jealousy is a good thing lets them know they are wanted but cross that line and well... you crossed a line.

So if you think your girl is dating down. Hell enjoy it and don't get super jealous. Love her without smothering her and see where it goes. If its just a moral boost you'll be tossed to the side early and left with a broken heart and damaged soul never able to truly trust again and contemplating how good emo bands have gotten recently. If it works then she wasn't dating down, really does like you and you just landed an amazing girl that you can share your time with. Either way that's just the way life goes so get off your damn couch, set down the keyboard and controler and meet that beautiful girl whose been waiting for Mr. Will do for Now!

Beware Replay

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's  @saintpepsi

The other day I sat down to play on some old school 007 Golden Eye. Revered as one of the most amazing First person shooters dare I say EVER!. We all remember all the hours we spent playing that game. I figured I would practice till the one on Wii came out in the near future. Dear Lord to say the past lives in our memories as so much better is an understatement. Going from playing Call of Duty :MW2 and Halo: Reach to 007 was like going from a LAN line to dial up.

I remembered that game in my head with the same graphics I played it at. When it came out it was top notch graphics and I had always remembered it as such. To my surprise the controls were insanely hard to master again. I'm still trying to figure out how I did it the first time. The X-box and Wii controllers are far more advanced for first person shooters. I still don't like how the PS3 is set up. Just saying! Aiming is a bitch and as far as the graphics go. Well lets just say they aren't up to par with what I remember them to be. The thing is, this as many games from the past is not easily played because of our expectations for games these days.

However, Mario, Mega Man, Castlevania, and Kirby... all these old school side strollers we still play and love dearly. How can this be? Games from the dawn of consoles can be so much easier played than the older first person shooters. Pong, Tetris, and Frogger all still get played all the time. It's because at their time we loved those Graphics heavy games for the graphics. Where as games like sonic, Mario, and Zelda weren't ever really about the graphics and were more about the stories and replay value. I can still go back and play and enjoy a game of Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. Trying to go back and play Vigilante 8, Perfect Dark, or Turok is just a pain in my eyes. Even games like Final Fantasy 7, one of the greatest RPG's; going back and playing that its just hard after seeing how amazing the final fantasy series can be. Sure, if they remade that whole game with graphics like 13 it would be amazing.

I will never be able to play those games with the same awe and wonder as I had when I first watched some of those cut scenes. In fact if I go back and play them I'll lose that original awe and wonder I had locked away in my childhood memories. You'll find most of the games that we can replay have more cartoon like characters very bold designs and flat colors that pop out. That's why it's so much easier to play old school Street Fighter than it is to play old school Tekken. I would rather play the original Mortal Kombat over the 3D version of the game that came out after Mortal Kombat 3. So unless a game was a side scroller or a game that wasn't really based around graphics. I would highly recommend not going back and playing it again. It will ruin the place in your mind that remembers it as one of those games that awed you and shocked you with how delightful the new and astounding graphics were.

Derek Hughes Man of Mystery

 #TalkNerdyToMeLover's  @saintpepsi

I hadn't planned on going to another one of K-states random weird events on campus. While they chance a few awesome things, usually I find them less than appealing. I was downstairs tonight in Forum Hall where all the Hippies in Manhattan had converged for a pro nature forum. It was a giant power point with lots of pictures that high schools use to write motivational words on. It wasn't until some random guy came running up to me and said, “Isn't this AWESOME!” That I decided just wasn't my scene so I walked upstairs in the union and was greeted by some girls in purple and the man himself  Derek Hughes at that point I didn't know that was who he was but you find these things out when they get introduced. I was going to meet a girl there but she was running late so I sat at the back intent on grabbing her as she came in. I haven't heard much about Derek Hughes. In fact until we got his Bio from the event coordinator I had never heard of him. At this point I will say that it was my loss. This man had a plethora of puns, tricks, and illusions that were all accompanied with both witty banter and crowd participation. He involved a number of my fellow Kansans whom all were but jaw dropped at the feats he preformed for them. I too was thoroughly amused at his cunning antics and slips of tongue and trade. I really enjoyed the random words he made up based around two words he would try to say and they just merged into one. That aside much like a movie with a twist I can't reveal much about this man's show. Only that if you can see it, do so! The twist at the end will leave you in stitches that only a doctor can remove at your earliest convenience. A twist so unconventional that M. Night would run around screaming why hadn't he thought about it.

OK cupid I concede you work

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's  @saintpepsi

It's 2 in the morning I sit here in a chair while a beautiful girls sleeps just behind me in an oversized t-shirt caught between pages of some book she was reading for class. Her phone left lonely in the palm of her hand. It's a freeing feeling to be so close to such tranquility. I dare not disturb her, but I will share with you the story of our meeting. I put little to no faith in any internet dating sites. However, recently Jen has credited OKCupid with all kinds of promotional material about her own dating life. My life was not so influential as I wouldn't consider myself famous, so I didn't anticipate great results. At first I just threw up my profile without going out of my way to look people up or inquire about them in any great deal. Slowly, I started checking out people in the area. It was kinda sad; I had been on a few dates already with people in this area that were on OKC. More depressing is the fact that you can see who visits your page and if you don't have a message it means they pass you on. You get over that, I guess. It was by pure chance I came across a girl who had the most amazing self summary.

I dance to the music on my Ipod...while in public.

I wish my life were a musical. Everyone would know all the words, the melodies and harmonies, and the choreographed dance pieces. And in the end, I'll live happily ever after.

I believe nothing is good in excess, even moderation.

I raise attack butterflies. I hand make water molecules. I rescue orphaned leaves on the ground. I wriggle my toes in rain puddles. During a hurricane, I performed oral surgery by candlelight using only a hairpin, a thumbtack, a napkin, and a piece of twine. I am a professional bounty hunter...of mice and men. I have lunch with God every Tuesday. I learned the meaning of life two years ago, but forgot to write it down. I go backpacking through other people's backyards and hitch hike to the corner of my street. I invented love.

Too many women I know are oval and round; I want to be a thousand corners, a geometric dream of squares and lines, corners never blunted, never sanded. I want to be a line that goes on and on and turns and moves to right and left and up and down and forward; knowing where I'm gong but sometimes going somewhere else, to some new corner, darker, greater; not a circle, softly mincing, this way, that, ending up just where it started.

This stopped me in my tracks and without any open invitation, request to date, or even a decent start to a conversation I just messaged her to let her know I thought it was the coolest self explanation I have ever heard in my life. So much was I moved by her randomness that I felt she really would get my sense of humor and kept my fingers crossed that she would message me back. We talked via messages and instant messaging for a while until we made that always bold gesture to meet in the real world. I know, eerie! Always the back thought is what if this has all been some weird coincidence and everything's about to fall apart. To my now delight it in no way has fallen to pieces. Much like a quilt, it was pieces that started weaving together to form a beautiful tapestry of a new friendship and as it turned out a romance. That first night we stayed up talking till early dawn at IHOP and driving around. I hadn't connected with anyone like I had with her. Each new day brought us closer and closer until tonight I asked her out.

And she said... ;)
