How to properly say #ThankYou

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

While I am quick to adjust my life to the ever changing digital world, there are a few things that I just refuse to update.  I don't call people, I only use emails if I have to, and I never print my own pictures.  But I do handwrite and mail thank you notes.

Here's the thing.  I like giving presents, but I really REALLY like having those gifts appreciated.  So I do my best to always make sure everyone knows I appreciate the things they do for me.  While I am good with brevity, a thank you is not the time or place for it.  A quick' thanks' on someone's wall is better than nothing, yes.  But I thought out and sincere note is a big deal, and is sure to guarantee that the person you are thanking will extend their generosity again.

So this Christmas, take some time to really thank people.  You don't have to go all midevil like I do and handwrite and mail something (but that really is a nice and simple thing that will make someone's day).  Email, FB message, DM or text out a full thank you.  A good thank-you note includes 1)what you got, 2)what you are going to do with it and 3)how much you appreciate/love it.  Generic, short notes are sad, and will make the person you are thanking feel like you don't actually like it, but you are saying thanks because you have to.  Here is a good example:

Jen2,

Thank you so much for showing me how to properly say thank you.  I know it will really make people feel special this holiday season, and instead of being a doucher that expects nice things, I will be seen as appreciative and deserving.  You are the best, and I appreciate you taking time to help me out.

See?  Easy Peezy!  And you are welcome!

#SheerAwesomeness: Hey There Delilah Parody

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

I know this is like ten thousand years old, but I still love it.  The real song came on and I love singing "Oh, it's what you do to me, oh it's what I'll do to you..."  Good stuff, Maynard.

#Epic: a real life UPS shipping label

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

Brian, the hubs, worked at UPS for several years (they aren't great to their employees, which is why I always recommend shipping FedEx), and he saw some interesting things go through there.  He said as long as you are shipping within the United States, you can literally ship anything.  Pretty much.  One of the doods that still works there sent him this picture, and it totally cracked me up!

So Merry Christmas from Jen2, you old bastards!

#SocialMedia...starting friendships over multiple platforms

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

I love love love me some social media.  While I'm not a super-socialmedialite, I'm pretty good at it.  I've been on the scene for quite awhile, of course starting with MySpace (in like 2004 or whatevs).  So I've been linked to my peeps for quite a while, and I love the relationships, networks and connections it has opened for me.  I am fairly new the the FourSquare thing, and I am getting better at remembering to checkin.  I just don't go anywhere worth checking in, usually.  But I went through and added all of my Twitter and Facebook contacts, and added them.  I got an email from one of the people asking why I would want to add him as he doesn't know me, and I explained that I was just doing a sweep.  He looked me up, realized a wasn't a robot, and was pleased to add a new nerd to his network.  He immediately friended me on Facebook, and pulled up a chat.  Turns out he is a fellow nerd (more in the technology sense than me, but as you know, #nerdsunite).  We talked about TNTML, and I explained what lifecasting is.  He was under the impression that lifecasters carried a camera around with them every where.  So we talked about how it all works, and how liberating it is for me.  It turns out that he is also a photographer, so we shared links to each other's work, and I was able to give him some tips on this and that, since he hasn't quite broken into the market yet.  We chatted for like an hour, I added him to not only my nerd network but my photography community as well.  I just love that this little connection, even if this is the last of it, was opened up and I was able to meet someone new.  Thanks, social media!

#AmazeBalls: My first UStream experience

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

So I know I am way way way crazy behind on this whole thing, but it's just the way it is, so hush.  I watched my first live ustreaming today, and totally loved it.  I have been hesitant to get into ustreaming because it just seems like such a waste of time.  I'm a busy ladyface, so I don't have time to sit and watch something.  I never just sit and watch TV, I have it playing in the background while I do seven other things.  That's also why I just don't watch Hulu, I can't just sit and do it.  But when one of my favorite people, Dr. Drew, tweeted that he was about to live chat with Dax from TMZ, I decided to check it out.  I'm not doing much of anything today, which means I'm working on three things.  See:I just arranged my workflow better so I could go ahead and watch the adorable Dr. Drew chat it up.  And when I needed to pull something else up I just listened.  It was awesome, and I'm totally converted.  I love that he was taking questions from the weirdos that were posting stuff, and I love that he was talking about real stuff, like Celebrity Rehab, my favorite make-me-feel-better-about-my-life-because-I'm-not-a-trainwreck show.  It was good stuff.

I'm totally on board with the live streaming thing.  I might even try it someday.
